Celebrate January with green tea!

January is National Green Tea month, so we thought we’d take this opportunity to highlight all of the benefits that green tea provides your skin!

We’re going to suggest that you switch out your morning coffee for green tea. While green tea doesn’t have quite the amount of caffeine that coffee does, the beverage has much more going for it when it comes to healthy skin.

Basics of Green Tea Benefits

Green tea isn’t just good for your skin—it’s good for your overall health. It’s chock-full of anti-oxidants that fight free radicals. That protects against cardiovascular damage, some cancers, infections and toxins.

Most experts recommend drinking three to ten cups of green tea per day to truly reap it’s antioxidant benefits. If you don’t want to drink that much or want to avoid caffeine altogether, try green tea extract in capsule form instead.

Green Tea Benefits for Your Skin

Green tea can be ingested as a liquid or as a supplement—it can also be applied topically! For example, one of our favorite products, SkinMedica® TNS Essential Serum, contains green tea extract as an antioxidant.

Topically, green tea helps protect against sun damage and reduce inflammation. It contains polyphenols, organic chemicals known to fight signs of aging, such as sagging skin and wrinkles.

Topical green tea extract may help reduce rosacea, too. At least one study showed that 2% polyphenol reduced the inflammatory lesions experienced by those with rosacea.
