Managing Rosacea
Rosacea is a common skin condition that affects many people. It’s a chronic condition characterized by facial redness that can look like a rash. Pimples are sometimes part of rosacea symptoms and can sometimes be misdiagnosed at “adult acne.” Rosacea can not only cause embarrassment, but it can also lead to skin inflammation and irritation with skin products, such as soaps and lotions. Fortunately rosacea is a treatable skin condition.
Symptoms
There are several basic signs that you may have rosacea. These signs become more apparent as the condition develops, but it generally starts with suddenly sensitive skin and redness on the face that may look like a sunburn. Some of the triggers can be alcohol or excessive sun exposure. Some of the other symptoms and signs of rosacea include:
- Facial Redness/Flushing
- Small pimples in the affected area
- Red lines on the face
- Swollen bumps on the nose
- Eye irritation
Because these signs and symptoms can be misdiagnosed as other conditions, such as acne or lupus, it’s always best to check with your doctor to ensure you don’t have a more serious skin condition.
Treatment
There are many treatment options available to help manage the cosmetic effects of rosacea. There are several lifestyle changes that can help manage rosacea, including avoiding excessive exposure to sunlight.
There are many antibiotics and other medications that can be prescribed by a doctor, especially in cases of rosacea affecting the eyes.
